The denomination '10 Milliarden' appears in each corner margin of the main field, while the numeral '10000000000' is set in bold at centre top, below which 'Zehn Milliarden Mark' is rendered in large Gothic type. A short text block at the top warns that all Landes- and Gemeindekassen within the Freistaat Mecklenburg-Schwerin accept this Notgeld during the circulation period, and a further paragraph at the bottom cites the counterfeiting penalty under §§ 146, 149 St.-G.-B. |

One of hundreds of regional emergency issues printed during the hyperinflation of late 1923, when the Reichsbank could not supply denominations fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. The Mecklenburg-Schwerin state ministry issued its own high-denomination Notgeld through local printers in Schwerin — an arrangement that was technically legal under the emergency printing authorizations of that period but represented a near-total breakdown of centralized monetary control.
By the time ten-billion-mark notes were being printed and distributed, the denomination itself was obsolete within days of issue. The Rentenmark stabilization in November 1923 rendered the entire series worthless almost immediately.
