Opmerkingen

Brunndöbra was a small Saxon village — a municipality so minor it barely registered in regional administration — yet in October 1923 it was printing its own ten-billion-mark emergency notes, as were hundreds of German towns and parishes scrambling to fill a currency vacuum the Reichsbank could no longer plug. Gemeindekasse notes of this type were issued under emergency authorization (Notgeld), redeemable in theory against official currency that was itself losing value faster than the ink dried.

The printer, Lukas Mißbach, was a local firm — not a specialist banknote house — which is exactly why these provincial issues vary so sharply in paper quality and registration across surviving examples.
