| Description de l’avers | The left third of the note is occupied by a black-printed vignette panel framed with a decorative scalloped border, enclosing the municipal coat of arms of Pinneberg — a shield bearing a turreted castle amid water, flanked by two six-pointed stars — above the denomination legend "10 Milliarden" and the issuer inscription "Stadt Pinneberg". The central field carries a pink guilloche underprint over which the denomination "10 Milliarden Mark" is set in large Gothic (Fraktur) blackletter type, followed by the redemption text, place, and date "Pinneberg, den 18. Oktober 1923", the issuing authority line "Für die Stadt Pinneberg / DER MAGISTRAT", and a manuscript signature. A circular red official stamp of the Magistrat der Stadt Pinneberg is applied to the right of centre, while a vertical red serial number and the denomination in red Fraktur script run along the right margin. |

Pinneberg is a small town northwest of Hamburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities in the autumn of 1923, its local magistrate was forced into the currency business by sheer necessity. The Reichsbank could not print fast enough to meet payroll. Local Notgeld of this period — particularly issues from October and November 1923, when denominations climbed into the billions and then trillions — were often printed on whatever stock the local printer had available, which is why paper quality and impression consistency vary so sharply even within a single series.
Belg was a small Pinneberg print shop, not a specialist security printer. The official stamp was the primary authentication device, as it was for most emergency municipal issues of this type.
