Beschrijving voorzijde Uniface letterpress Notgeld on cream paper stock, framed by a decorative border of grapevine and leaf motifs evoking the Baden wine-growing tradition. The central panel carries the denomination 'Zehn Milliarden Mark' in large Gothic blackletter script, above the place and date 'Emmendingen, den 27. Oktober 1923', with the numeral '10 000 000 000' at lower left and a hand-stamped serial number together with a manuscript signature in green ink for 'Der Gemeinderat' at lower right. A validity clause in roman type at the top of the panel references the 'Breisgauer Nachrichten' newspaper, and the printer's imprint appears at the foot.

Opmerkingen

Emmendingen's municipal administration issued this ten-billion-mark note during the vertical collapse of the Weimar hyperinflation — by October 1923, the Reichsbank could not produce currency fast enough, and thousands of German municipalities, banks, and private firms were authorized to print their own emergency money, known collectively as Notgeld. The Dölter press was a local commercial printer, not a security printer, and the lack of sophisticated anti-counterfeiting measures was essentially irrelevant: denominations this large were obsolete within days of issue.

The Rentenmark stabilization of November 1923 rendered the entire series worthless almost immediately after printing.
