| 表面の説明 | Orange and black letterpress Notgeld on plain paper, with elaborate acanthus-scroll borders framing the entire face. A central vignette presents a detailed view of Glücksburg Castle (Schloss Glücksburg) reflected in surrounding waters, rendered in fine line engraving. The denomination numeral '10' appears in large ornate blackletter type at both upper corners, with the title legend 'Notgeld des Landkreises Flensburg' carried on a curved ribbon banner across the upper field; below the vignette, the denomination 'Zehn Milliarden Mark' is set in bold Gothic script, followed by the redemption text, issue date of 3 November 1923, a serial number, two manuscript signatures, and an official circular stamp of the Landrat Flensburg at lower right. |

Landkreis Flensburg was among hundreds of German local authorities forced into emergency currency production during the hyperinflation of 1923, when the Reichsbank simply could not print fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power. A ten-billion-mark denomination — unthinkable eighteen months earlier — had by late 1923 become barely sufficient for routine transactions. H. Geisel was a local Flensburg printer, not a specialist currency house, which is exactly the point: by this stage, municipal offices were commissioning whoever had a press and paper.
Flensburg's position added a particular edge. The district had only been confirmed as German territory following the 1920 Schleswig plebiscite, and this notgeld circulated in a community still acutely aware of that recent political rupture.
