Poland's interwar monetary reform of the mid-1920s stabilized the złoty after catastrophic inflation, but the design program for subsidiary coinage dragged on for years. The oak leaf reverse on this trial was one of several rejected proposals circulated internally before the final 1929 coinage was settled — bronze was ultimately abandoned in favor of nickel for the circulating issue, which partly explains why these pattern strikes exist in a metal never intended for production.
