Additional information

The zlotnik is a pre-metric Ukrainian unit of weight borrowed from the Polish złotnik and ultimately the Arabic mithqal, revived here as a denomination name rather than a functioning monetary unit. Ukraine's National Bank has used it for a series of small brass naturalist issues pitched at the collector market rather than circulation — none were ever intended to pass through hands as currency.

The pied avocet breeds in limited numbers along Ukraine's Black Sea coastal wetlands, particularly around the Sivash lagoon system.
