Additional information

Trevisan's doge lasted barely eighteen months — he died in May 1554 after a reign plagued by illness and overshadowed by Venice's ongoing conflict with the Ottoman Empire. Zecchini struck under his name are among the shorter-series issues of the sixteenth century, produced across a single fiscal cycle of the Zecca.

The Venetian zecchino maintained its .999 fineness with extraordinary consistency across more than five centuries of production, making it the preferred trade coin across the Levant and eastern Mediterranean long after other European gold standards had debased.
