The Doge is shown in ceremonial ducal regalia, receiving the investiture staff in a gesture of devotion. The Latin legend naming the Doge frames the scene along the periphery. The composition follows the canonical Venetian ducato obverse type established in the thirteenth century. |

The devotional Latin legend encircles the entire composition along the outer border, invoking Christ as ruler of the ducat. |
