| Obverse description | Central field occupied by the ornate arms of Grand Master Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, quartered with the eight-pointed cross of the Order of Malta and the personal arms of the Grand Master including a rampant lion, the escutcheon surmounted by a mural crown. The shield is set within an elaborate baroque cartouche with foliate and scroll decoration. The circular legend reading F·D·AN:MANOEL DE VILHENA M M H 1725 runs along the periphery, with the date 1725 incorporated into the legend. The coin's edge bears a milled border of fine beading. |
