| Reverse description | A full-length frontal figure of Christ Pantocrator, nimbed with a cruciform halo, stands in majesty within a beaded mandorla-shaped ellipse, the interior field adorned with a ring of six-pointed stars. Christ raises his right hand in benediction and holds the Gospels in his left. The outer legend, SIT·T·XPE·DAT·Q·TV REGIS·ISTE·DVCA, is the traditional Venetian ducal invocation meaning 'May this duchy be given to thee, O Christ, whom thou rulest,' a formula unchanged on Venetian zecchini since the 13th century. The beaded ellipse border and star-studded field are hallmarks of the classic Venetian zecchino design. |
