| Obverse description | The national arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo occupy the central field: a leopard's head in profile surmounting two crossed spears and a flaming torch, all enclosed within a wreath of olive branches. A ribbon at the base of the arms bears the national motto in three panels reading JUSTICE, PAIX, and TRAVAIL. The circular legend RÉPUBLIQUE DÉMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO runs along the upper periphery, and the denomination 1 ZAÏRE appears in large characters in the lower field. The entire design is framed by a continuous inner border of raised beads. |
