China's lunar series coinage has been issued annually since 1981, making the Tiger one of the later entries in an unbroken run that began with the Rooster. The 2010 issue marks the second full cycle through the twelve-year zodiac since the series launched — a complete turn of the wheel from the inaugural 1986 Tiger.
