Beschrijving voorzijde Central field dominated by a large, complex monogram-like cursive Chinese character or ligature, flanked on either side by a floral rosette ornament. Two Chinese ideograms reading 軍餉 (Jūn Xiǎng, 'Military Payment') are inscribed in the upper portion of the field. The overall design is executed in a bold, hand-engraved style characteristic of cast Chinese silver coinage of the period.

Aanvullende informatie

The year 1844 places this issue in the early Daoguang period, when Taiwan remained a prefecture of Fujian Province — decades before it would be designated a separate province in 1885. Military payment certificates of this type circulated among garrison troops and were struck under local authority rather than through the central Board of Revenue mints in Beijing or Guangzhou. Eduard Kann's cataloguing of this piece as K#7 reflects its relative obscurity even among specialist collectors of Chinese provincial and military coinage.
