Obverse description Central field dominated by a large, complex monogram-like cursive Chinese character or ligature, flanked on either side by a floral rosette ornament. Two Chinese ideograms reading 軍餉 (Jūn Xiǎng, 'Military Payment') are inscribed in the upper portion of the field. The overall design is executed in a bold, hand-engraved style characteristic of cast Chinese silver coinage of the period.

Reverse description Two Chinese ideograms 紋足 (Zú Wén, 'Fine Silver') arranged horizontally across the upper field, with two further ideograms 通行 (Tōng Xíng, 'Generally Current') displayed prominently in the lower central field. Floral rosette ornaments appear to the left and right of centre, mirroring the obverse decoration. The inscription attests to the coin's silver fineness and legal currency status, rendered in a bold engraved style consistent with Taiwanese provincial military coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.
