P#800 is the first note issued by the People's Bank of China, dated 12 December 1948 — the same month the bank itself was formally established by merging the Beihai Bank, the Huabei Bank, and the Northwest Farmer's Bank. That consolidation was a deliberate step by the CCP to unify competing regional currencies ahead of eventual nationwide control, still more than six months away.
The word "Replica" in the catalog designation matters: reproductions of this issue circulate widely, and authentication of genuine examples requires careful examination of paper stock and intaglio depth.
