Obverse description Left-facing truncated bust effigy of Sun Yat-sen, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and facial features in a naturalistic European academic style, consistent with the work of Viennese engraver Richard Placht. A six-character Chinese legend arcs along the upper periphery reading 中華民國十八年 (Year 18 of the Republic of China), with individual characters also flanking the left side of the portrait. The entire design is bordered by a continuous inner ring of raised beads set just within the reeded edge.
