Obverse description Left-facing draped bust of Sun Yat-sen rendered in high relief, with finely modelled naturalistic facial features and hair, the truncation visible at the lower field. The portrait, executed by United States Mint engraver John R. Sinnock, is framed by two isolated characters at the mid-left and mid-right of the field. A six-character Chinese legend arcs around the upper periphery reading 中華民國二十一年 (Year 21 of the Republic of China), while the lower field remains open.

Reverse description A two-masted Chinese junk under full sail proceeds rightward across a stylised sea rendered in fine, incised detail, with rigging and billowing sails clearly delineated and three birds in flight visible beneath the hull. A radiant rising sun dominates the upper background, its rays extending across the field in a distinctive fan pattern. The six-character legend 金本位幣壹圓 (Gold Standard Currency / 1 Yuan) arcs along the upper periphery, establishing both the denomination and the monetary standard for which this pattern was prepared. The overall composition follows the established junk dollar format but reflects Sinnock's modified treatment of the design elements.
