Obverse description Central field features the denomination 壹圓 (1 Yuan) in large Chinese characters within an inner beaded circle. Surrounding this central element is a broad band of Manchu script arranged in a radial pattern, forming the primary decorative and inscriptional zone of the obverse. An outer beaded border separates this Manchu inscription band from the peripheral Chinese legend, which reads 大清造局器械洋北 and 年三十二绪光, identifying the issuing authority as the Great Qing Bei Yang Arsenal and the regnal year as the 23rd year of the Guangxu reign. Star ornaments punctuate the Chinese peripheral legend at intervals, and the entire design is contained within a reeded rim.
