Reverse description Central field depicts a front-facing Chinese imperial dragon in high relief, its body coiled and wings partially spread, clutching a flaming pearl beneath its chest. The dragon's detailed scales, flowing whiskers, and fierce expression are rendered in the distinctive style characteristic of late Qing dynasty coinage. Flanking the dragon are cloud and bat motifs. The peripheral legend in Latin characters reads TA. TSING. TWENTY THIRD YEAR OF KWANG HSU. PEI YANG ARSENAL., encircling the central design and separated from the dragon by an open field. Two small star ornaments punctuate the legend, and the entire design is bounded by a reeded rim.
