Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese ideograms arranged vertically in two columns, flanked by Manchu script characters at centre. The entire central device is encircled by an English peripheral legend denoting the issuing province and denomination. The composition is arranged symmetrically within a beaded border, presenting a formal imperial typographic design characteristic of late Qing dynasty coinage.
