Issued to mark the 56th anniversary of the Zunyi Conference, the January 1935 meeting at which Mao Zedong consolidated his leadership over the Chinese Communist Party during the Long March. The conference is treated in PRC historiography as the moment the Party found its ideological footing — a pivot point around which considerable commemorative energy has been spent.
This coin was part of a broader series of commemorative circulating yuan pieces produced in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Zunyi, a city in Guizhou Province, remains a major destination for CCP-organized patriotic education tours to this day.
