The Central Bank of China's 1935 note issues were produced under the fapi currency reform launched that November, when the Nationalist government nationalized silver holdings and replaced the commodity-backed system with managed paper currency. The transition was abrupt and politically contentious — foreign silver coins were forcibly exchanged, and the new notes became the sole legal tender almost overnight.
The Chungking printing works attribution places production inland, away from the coastal facilities that would fall under Japanese pressure within a few years. P#206 is among the earlier outputs of that interior operation.
