Opmerkingen

The Tachen overprint series exists because of a specific administrative problem: the Dachen Islands (Tachen), a Nationalist-held archipelago off the Zhejiang coast, needed a distinct currency to prevent notes from freely crossing into Communist-controlled mainland territory. The Bank of Taiwan supplied the solution by overprinting existing stock rather than commissioning a new issue.

The overprint program was short-lived. By February 1955, Operation King Kong saw the U.S. Seventh Fleet evacuate the entire civilian and military population of the Dachens — rendering these notes obsolete almost immediately. Surviving circulated examples are genuinely scarce; most remaining stock never reached the islands at all.
