Obverse description A vignette of the Bank of Taiwan building appears at left, flanked by a portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen at centre. An outline map of Taiwan is printed at right, with Chinese inscriptions identifying the issuing authority, denomination, and the date of issue as the 35th year of the Republic of China.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in steel blue and centres on an oval intaglio vignette of the naval battle of 1633 in which Zheng Zhilong defeated the Dutch fleet off the coast of Taiwan, with warships engaged in close action before a mountainous coastal backdrop. Flanking guilloche panels bearing the numeral "1" fill the left and right fields, and the whole composition is framed by an ornate scalloped border.
