Reverse description The reverse features the imperial chrysanthemum mon (sixteen-petalled blossom) at the top center, serving as the Emperor's royal seal. Below, the denomination is rendered in two large kanji characters reading 一圓 (One Yen), flanked on either side by decorative branches of paulownia and chrysanthemum flowers. A countermark appears to the left of the denomination characters. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, with a plain outer rim.
