Obverse description Central vignette of a circular mural rendering "Ancient Mound Works (Mound Builder Indians)", flanked on each side by the numeral 5 within ornamental cartouches. Multi-line commemorative inscriptions frame the central design above and below, with decorative borders enclosing the entire composition. The token is printed on a thin rectangular wooden substrate by letterpress.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a central oval panel containing the redemption text, flanked by two scenic vignettes: a steam locomotive and railway landscape to the left, and an industrial riverfront with bridge to the right. Numeral 5 appears in ornamental circles at each upper corner, with facsimile signatures of the General Chairman and Secretary below the oval panel. The legend "ONE WOODEN NICKEL" appears in bold letterpress across the lower margin within a decorative border.
