Obverse description The State coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power lines before Mount Paektu, surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating beams of light, the whole framed by sheaves of rice tied with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul. Decorative foliate sprigs flank the arms at the lower left and right. The circular legend in Hangul reads the country name around the upper periphery, with the denomination '1 원' and date '2001' inscribed below the arms in the lower field.
