| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting the Paektu-san mountain landscape with a hydroelectric dam, rice sheaves framing the shield on either side, and a five-pointed star above radiating sunbeams. The arms are flanked at the base by decorative sprigs. The denomination '1 원' (1 Won) appears in the lower field in Korean script. The circular legend in Korean script reading '조선민주주의인민공화국' (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) surrounds the design along the periphery. |
