Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse is divided into two registers by a horizontal band bearing the Chinese legend 祝贺97香港回归中国 (Congratulations on Hong Kong's Return to China in 1997). The upper register depicts the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, rendered in fine detail with its distinctive circular, tiered roof and flanking ceremonial walkways. The lower register features a panoramic view of the Hong Kong skyline, including recognizable skyscrapers such as the Bank of China Tower, set against a stylized waterfront. The composition commemorates the 1997 handover of Hong Kong from British to Chinese sovereignty.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark Hong Kong's 1997 handover from Britain to China, this piece appeared four years after the event itself — North Korea had a habit of producing commemorative coinage well after the occasions they nominally celebrated, primarily for foreign currency generation through numismatic sales rather than domestic circulation. Aluminium at this size and weight is unusually substantial, suggesting a presentation-grade intention from the outset.
