Obverse description The State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is displayed prominently in the centre of the field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power pylon framed by sheaves of rice, surmounted by a five-pointed star above radiating rays, with a ribbon scroll bearing the state name in Hangul at the base. The circular legend reading the full name of the state and the issuing bank in Hangul runs along the upper periphery. The denomination '1 원' (1 Won) appears in the lower field, flanked by decorative leaf sprigs, against a mirror-polished background.
