| 表面の説明 | The National Coat of Arms of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the upper central field, depicting a hydroelectric dam and power transmission pylon set against a mountain landscape, surmounted by a five-pointed star emitting rays, and flanked by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon inscribed with the state name in Hangul. The circular legend in Hangul reading the full name of the issuing bank runs along the left and right periphery. North Korea's aluminum coinage of the 1980s was produced in two parallel streams: one for domestic circulation, one for foreign visitors and hard-currency transactions through the state's official exchange network. KM#18 belongs to the domestic series, distinguishable from the tourist issues by the absence of a star or other differentiating mark used to segregate currency flows — a system the DPRK maintained to prevent convertible foreign exchange from bleeding into the general economy.
