Obverse description Central device depicts a stylised three-towered castle or city gate, the emblem of Hamburg, rendered in a bold Gothic manner characteristic of 14th-century North German hammered coinage. The central tower rises above two flanking turrets, each crenellated, with an arched gateway visible at the base. The device is set within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding field carries the circular legend MONETA HAMBVRGENS in uncial Lombardic lettering, reading clockwise.
