Obverse description Facing bust of Saint Peter, patron saint of Cologne, depicted enthroned in frontal view within a beaded inner circle. The saint is shown wearing ecclesiastical vestments and a nimbus, holding a key in his right hand and a book or scepter in his left. A shield bearing the arms of Cologne appears in the lower field before the figure. Flanking the central effigy are architectural and decorative elements typical of late medieval Rhenish coinage. A Latin legend in Gothic characters encircles the design within the beaded border.
