| Beschrijving voorzijde | Within a beaded border, the quartered arms of Cologne are displayed on a large shield surmounted by a cross, all set within a Gothic architectural frame with trefoil cusping. The shield bears the characteristic cross of Cologne in the upper quarters and the Saarwerden arms in the lower quarters. Flanking the central device are stylized decorative elements typical of late 14th-century Rhenish coinage. The heraldic composition is rendered in the bold, flat relief characteristic of hammered Gothic albus coinage of the lower Rhine. |
