| 裏面の説明 | A trefoil composed of three lobes, within each lobe a shield: the arms of Mainz (a red wheel) and Nassau arranged in a two-fold quartered shield at center, with the arms of Cologne, Trier, and Bavaria positioned at the tips of the trefoil. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer margin, enclosed between beaded borders, reflecting the archiepiscopal and collegiate heraldic associations of the issuer. |

Adolph II of Nassau's tenure as Archbishop of Mainz was defined less by ecclesiastical governance than by a prolonged and bitter dispute over the see itself. He was installed following a contested election in 1461, opposed by Diether von Isenburg, and the resulting conflict drew in the Palatinate and triggered the Mainz Diocesan Feud. The city of Mainz was sacked in 1462, stripping it of centuries of privileges. Coinage issued across this period reflects an administration perpetually mobilizing resources — financially and militarily — rather than one operating in settled authority.
