Obverse description Central field displays the Grand Master's heraldic shield of the Teutonic Order, bearing a plain cross with a small escutcheon at the chief point, all within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in Gothic style typical of 14th-century hammered coinage. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the shield, reading MAGISTER GENERALIS, denoting the office of Grand Master. The lettering is separated by small decorative stops, and the overall design is characteristic of the Prussian Teutonic Order issues of the mid-to-late 14th century.
