| Obverse description | Central field displays the Grand Master's heraldic shield of the Teutonic Order, bearing a plain cross with a small escutcheon at the chief point, all within a beaded inner circle. The shield is rendered in Gothic style typical of 14th-century hammered coinage. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the shield, reading MAGISTER GENERALIS, denoting the office of Grand Master.
