Reverse description The enthroned Virgin Mary, nimbate and robed, is depicted seated in three-quarter view upon a crescent moon resting on billowing clouds, holding the Christ Child on her left arm in the traditional Patrona Bavariae composition. The design evokes the Baroque devotional image long associated with Bavarian royal patronage. The circumferential Latin legend PATRONA BAVARIÆ arcs around the upper field within a beaded border, with the divided date flanking the central design in the lower field. The overall composition is dignified and richly detailed, reflecting the religious iconographic tradition of the Madonnentaler type.
