| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform around a central square hole, reading clockwise from the top: 天 (Thiên), 聖 (Thánh), 元 (Nguyên), 寶 (Bảo), forming the reign title legend 天聖元寶. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) in low relief, separated by the arms of the square perforation. The flat field shows extensive green and blue-grey patination consistent with aged bronze. |
