Obverse description Round copper cash coin with a central square perforation, struck in the traditional East Asian cash format. Four large Chinese characters are arranged in cruciform fashion around the square hole, reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 佛 (Buddha), 法 (Dharma), 僧 (Sangha), and 寶 (Treasure), referencing the Three Jewels of Buddhism. The characters are rendered in a bold, somewhat coarsely cast style consistent with rebel-issue coinage of the early sixteenth century. A plain inner rim frames the central square hole, while a raised outer rim encircles the entire design. The coin displays an attractive patina of green malachite and blue azurite encrustation consistent with prolonged burial.
