Beschrijving voorzijde Four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square hole, rendered in regular script (chân thư). The legend reads clockwise from top: 正 (Chính), 隆 (Long), 元 (Nguyên), 寶 (Bảo), forming the reign title Chính Long Nguyên Bảo. The characters are boldly cast within a plain raised rim, and the coin exhibits a characteristic green-blue patina consistent with aged bronze.

Aanvullende informatie

Chính Long Thông Bảo coins were officially issued under Emperor Lý Anh Tông, but the "private issue" designation here signals something specific: alongside state production, privately cast imitations and semi-official pieces circulated freely in twelfth-century Vietnam, a tolerated practice rooted in chronic shortages of official coinage. The Lý dynasty never achieved full monetary control over its territory, and local casting filled the gap.

Weight and fabric on private pieces vary considerably from official strikes — 2g sits toward the lighter end of the known range.
