| Obverse description | Four Chinese characters rendered in sigillary (seal script) style, arranged in the four quadrants around the central square hole, reading clockwise from the top: 安 (An), 法 (Pháp), 元 (Nguyên), 寶 (Bảo), composing the legend 安法元寶 (An Pháp Nguyên Bảo). The characters are cast in low relief against a plain, unbordered field. The coin was issued during the period of Chinese Ming occupation of Vietnam and the concurrent Le Loi rebellion (1414–1428), making it a notable issue of the resistance movement. The flan is round with a central square perforation, consistent with the East Asian cash coin tradition. |
