Reverse description The reverse displays a continuous three-line scroll or cartouche composition, with the abbreviated legend arranged in three horizontal bands enclosed within a decorative oval frame. Above the cartouche, three even Prince of Wales plumes with bands are prominently displayed at the top of the field. The date 1644 appears below the central cartouche, with the Oxford mint mark OX beneath it. The outer circular legend, separated by pellet stops, runs continuously around the reverse and is rendered in bold hammered Roman capitals.
