Obverse description Crowned half-length effigy of Charles I facing right, depicted in elaborate armour with a richly ornamented mantle, holding a sceptre surmounted by a fleur-de-lis in his right hand and a globus cruciger in his left. The king wears a large imperial crown and a ruffled collar, with fine engraving detail throughout the regalia characteristic of Nicolas Briot's medallic style. A small cross pattée mark appears in the field to the right of the bust. The royal legend in Latin encircles the effigy within a beaded border.
