Beschrijving voorzijde A club depicted in relief at center, oriented vertically, with a single pellet (value mark for one uncia) positioned to the right of the club in the field. The surface is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with cast production techniques of the period. The design is rendered in a bold, schematic style typical of Central Italian aes grave coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

The cast bronze libral and sub-libral series of central Italy remain among the most poorly attributed coinages in the whole Roman Republican sequence — "uncertain city" is not hedging, it reflects a genuine scholarly impasse that has persisted for over a century. The cantharus type, a drinking vessel associated with Dionysian cult, suggests an issuing community with strong Greek cultural influence, but the precise mint has never been conclusively fixed. Haeberlin's foundational 1910 typology still anchors the references here, which itself signals how little the field has moved.
