Obverse description Crowned bust of Naser al-Din Shah facing right, wearing an elaborately jewelled Qajar crown and richly embroidered royal robes. Flanking the portrait on either side are two cartouches bearing the royal name and title in fine Nasta'liq calligraphy. The bust is framed below and to the sides by a decorative wreath of leafy branches tied at the base, all executed in the engraving style characteristic of mid-19th century Iranian court art.
