Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by a bold, densely composed Arabic calligraphic legend executed in the fluid Nasta'liq script characteristic of Qajar coinage. The inscription, reading 'Al-'Izza lillah' (Glory belongs to God) together with the mint formula 'Zarb Dar al-Marz Rasht' (Struck at the border abode of Rasht), fills the flan from rim to rim. Ornamental pellet groupings punctuate the lower portion of the field, serving as decorative separators between lines of text. A plain inner circle frames the central inscription, with additional calligraphic strokes extending to the raised rim. The hammered technique imparts a slightly irregular, organically shaped flan typical of early Qajar gold coinage.
