The attribution "uncertain city of Central Italy" reflects a genuine scholarly impasse — this heavy cast bronze series has been assigned at various points to Hatria, Luceria, and several other Latin colonies established in the third century BC, with no consensus holding for long. The ICC and HN Italy references place it within a broader aes grave tradition, but the issuing authority remains contested in the literature. Haeberlin's foundational 1910 corpus, still the baseline reference for cast bronze, catalogued comparable pieces from surface finds that give no firm archaeological provenance.
