The effigy is encircled by a degenerate, nonsensical pseudo-legend composed of debased Latin letterforms, arranged within a beaded border. The inscription has devolved into a series of unintelligible characters, reflecting the progressive degradation of the prototype's original legend through repeated copying.

The overall design is a barbarized imitation of Byzantine tremissis reverses, with the inscription having deteriorated beyond legibility through successive die copying.
