| 裏面の説明 | Winged archangel Saint Michael standing facing left, holding a long staff in one hand and a shield in the other, rendered in the schematic style typical of Lombard ecclesiastical coinage. The figure is enclosed within a beaded border and surrounded by a Latin abbreviated legend identifying the archangel. The design reflects the strong religious iconography adopted by Lombard kings during the eighth century. |

Liutprand ruled the Lombard Kingdom for over thirty years — the longest reign of any Lombard king — and used that stability to push aggressively against Byzantine holdings in northern and central Italy, briefly seizing the Exarchate of Ravenna in 751 under his successor but laying the political groundwork for it himself. This tremissis was struck by a moneyer named Ambros, one of the few identifiable individuals in Lombard coin production, whose name appears on a small cluster of surviving gold issues attributable to Liutprand's long reign.
